Dad & Baby Bonding day.
Benefits of dads attending the class
When dads engage in baby massage, they experience a unique opportunity to bond and build a secure, loving connection with their little one. Physical touch and gentle interaction help dads foster a sense of closeness and trust with their baby, enhancing the parent-child relationship. Baby massage encourages dads to tune into their baby’s nonverbal cues, learning how to respond to subtle signals, which deepens their confidence and connection in parenting.
The calming, rhythmic strokes of baby massage also provide relaxation benefits for both the baby and dad. This shared quiet time can relieve stress, promoting feelings of calm and patience in fathers while helping soothe the baby. Engaging in baby massage allows dads to play an active role in their baby’s comfort and emotional development, which strengthens attachment and supports the baby’s sense of safety.
For working or busy dads, this practice becomes a cherished bonding ritual. It fosters a positive, hands-on approach to caregiving, creating memories and an emotional bond that lasts a lifetime.
About the day
This Massage and Bonding Class for dads is a unique, relaxed, and hands-on experience hopefully filled with laughter, learning, and connection. Dads are welcomed into a warm, cosy space with soft soothing background music. The babies are settled on mats or blankets, while dads can settle in with a warm drink and get comfortable.
The session begins with a gentle introduction to the benefits of baby massage, specifically emphasizing the power of touch in fostering attachment and emotional security. Dads are often surprised at how quickly they can pick up on their baby’s cues, learning what their little one finds soothing.
As the class moves on, you are guided through various massage techniques, shown how to gently stroke your baby’s arms, legs, and tummy. As dads you are invited to share your stories, swap tips, and all learn together. You will be helped to adjust the techniques if needed to ensure the experience is both beneficial and relaxing for you and your babies.
One highlight of the class is the bonding exercises woven throughout the session. Eye contact, soft vocal interactions, and even a few silly faces help you connect with your little ones on a deeper level. Many dads experience moments of pure connection when their baby locks eyes with them or coos in response to the gentle touch.
To wrap up, there’s time for refreshments & reflection, where all dads share their experiences, how they felt during the class, and insights on how they can incorporate these techniques into their daily routines. As a dad you will leave with newfound confidence, a sense of community, and a special bond that feels even more meaningful than when you arrived. You’re taking home skills to soothe, comfort, and build trust with your baby, along with priceless memories of a day spent connecting and learning with other dads.
The session is baby led, where the pace and techniques are guided by the baby’s cues, this allows for a more meaningful and gentle bonding experience. When parents let their baby lead, they’re tuning into their baby’s unique needs and responses, building a foundation of trust and respect from the start. Babies communicate through their expressions, body language, and sounds, and by following these cues, parents provide a nurturing environment that feels safe and responsive to the baby. so if your baby cries it is ok to pick them up for a cuddle. If they are hungry, it is ok to feed them. Whatever your baby needs or wants this is always priority. Not all babies will want to be massaged. You are able to observe the massage strokes with your baby if your baby doesn’t want to be massaged and you can practice the massage at home when your baby is ready.
what to wear
It is advisable to wear loose and comfortable clothing as the room will need to be warm for babies to be comfortable when undressed. Although it is suggested that babies have their clothing removed (except the nappy) it is not essential.
What to bring
A mat and massage oil will be provided but if you prefer to bring your own this is not a problem. Babies are more comfortable when they are surrounded by familiar smells, therefore please bring a towel or blanket for your baby to lie on.
It is a good idea to bring plenty of nappies and spare clothing as well as extra feeds for your baby. If your baby has a favourite small toy this may also be comforting for them in class.
How old should babies be
Ideally your baby should be new-born to around 6 months (pre mobile). This is a guide only, however, mobile babies tend to want to be off playing!
